My husband used to be a farriar and when he learned many moons ago it was with forge and anvil. He loved working in the fire and made tiny horseshoes to bring home to the kids. Even later on he used to make all the horse shoes for the hunter-jumpers at the barns that he worked at. You can use ready mades but he just enjoyed working the fire.
